Studio Ghibli is responsible for some of my favorite all-time animated features and they are collaborating with Level-5 to make a Nintendo DS and PS3 game called Ni no Kuni. The games are completely separate games built from scratch – no porting of content from one to the other. The PS3 screens and trailers released so far are beautiful and capture the spirit of the Ghibli’s motion pictures.
Adding to my excitement for this title is the news that has recently been confirmed Level-5’s CEO that this title will see a Western release. Let’s face it, if this game were to not be released in the US, then… well… I probably wouldn’t play it.
The fact that my son has recently become addicted to My Neighbor Totoro is definitely driving my anxiousness about this game. Having watched Totoro 20 or so times in the last couple weeks, I have been reminded constantly how amazing Studio Ghibli’s animation is and I’m constantly seeing things I never noticed before. Pixar also recognizes the genius that is Totoro and gave him a cameo in Toy Story 3:
Can’t wait for this game.
